Characterful Architecture

11:30

Caro van de Venne - Nudus

Nudus wants to stimulate all the senses with her designs. The firm increasingly draws inspiration from nature. The diversity of facades at Oopen next to Utrecht Centraal, which Nudus is working on with Heatherwick Studio, is on the one hand a reflection of the diversity of users, but on the other hand also an ode to the infinite variety of fractal shapes in nature.

Façades in the Symbiocene

14:30

Ron Bakker - PLP Architecture

Right next to Rotterdam Central Station, PLP Architecture, together with ZUS, is designing a 130-meter-high tower with office space at the bottom and housing at the top. The wood-hybrid tower will have all kinds of canopies on the south that are equipped with plants or PV panels and that locally grow into balconies that are sometimes connected by stairs.

Building for somewhere, not anywhere

16:30

Don Murphy - VMX Architects

In his talk, Murphy will share some thoughts on facade design and discuss several of his firm's current projects. One of those projects is the multifunctional The Puls of Amsterdam on the Zuidas, which has been given a fascinating faceted facade. What factors shaped that facade? And how is that facade made?
